Earlier Amsterdam Documentary International Film Festival (IDFA), the most important documentary film festival in the world, unveiled the name of Mohsen Makhmalbaf as its jury member for its 2019 edition.
Last night, Mohsen Makhmalbaf arrived at the festival opening ceremony in Amsterdam from Italy where his latest film "Marghe and her Mother" is currently getting premiered.
Joining the leading Iranian director on the jury panel for the main competition section this year are the master French filmmaker Claire Simon and the iconic director Gaston Kaboré from West Africa.
Today, the festival’s IDFAcademy got off to a strong start with the renowned Iranian filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalhbaf workshop inspiring participants with a deep dive into oeuvre, sharing insights from his over three decades of filmmaking expertise.
Taking place over four days during the festival, IDFAcademy welcomes 100 emerging filmmakers from around the world to learn the ins and outs of the documentary industry from renowned directors and other experts.
Later during the festival, one of Makhmalbaf’s masterpieces "A Moment of Innocence" is to be screened as part of the tribute to the great master.
Amsterdam Documentary International Film Festival (IDFA) 2019 runs from November 20 until December 1.
